Your Advisory Committee
I have been involved in PickleBall play for 10 years here in Fountain Hills and was one of the beginning founder group of three. I cannot think of a greater group of individuals to know as both players and as people. The FHPBC is a special club providing play times for both club members and for our community. We enjoy both recreational and competitive play and I love it all. I am proud of what we have become and can claim that I was and still am a small part of our success. I also enjoy being an USAPA Ambassador. In addition, my pickleball referenced license plate draws attention in parking lots and affords me additional opportunities to talk up the game. I say play on!
John spent 30 years with IBM, moving around: Long Island, New York; Richmond, Virginia; San Jose, California; Tampa, Florida; Tokyo, Japan; before settling in Fountain Hills. When he finally/mostly retired he and his wife volunteered to spend 120 days per year for five years teaching computer software on cruise ships. He has a degree in Business Management, Finance, so creating our club financial statements is a natural. He still keeps his interest in business and is in partnership with his son as Massage Envy franchisees.
He and his wife Karen have two children and four Grand Kids.
Great fun and enjoyment can be found at the Fountain Hills Pickle Ball Club. Have had the pleasure of being a member of this club for over 5 years. The only downside of this is that I wasted over three years before joining. A friend had suggested this activity over 8 years ago; however, I dismissed the suggestion as something I might do; but, not right now. How one learns lessons of life!
Since I joined have had the pleasure of meeting a number of local residents as well as the winter visitors, who have become great friends. The club provides a setting where all are welcome. The court schedule gives all members the opportunity to learn and progress to the level they are comfortable playing at.
I encourage all individuals to come out and see if it is an activity they would enjoy. Don’t delay.
Started playing PB about 4 years ago. My wife and I played one time and immediately ordered 2 new paddles, balls and a carry bag. In short, we were instantly hooked. We have both played in tournaments and enjoy playing competitively and helping with beginners. We have found that FHPBC is one of the best PB clubs in the valley.
I started playing Pickleball four years ago and have been addicted ever since. My biggest joy in playing is all the friends I have made who have enriched my life immensely. I am excited to be a member of the advisory board and hope to bring new and exciting ideas to the club.
Warning to those considering taking up Pickleball: It is addictive! But in a good way. Not only is the sport fun and competitive, being a member of the FH Pickleball Club, I get to meet with a bunch of great people for play and for events like orientations, tournaments, holiday parties and the Spring Fling. And the beauty of the play schedule is that I can usually play 3, 4 or more times a week.
10 Year’s ago I was an avid tennis player, playing 3-4 days per week. We had a small (12 player) core group and we all enjoyed the competition and exercise. I then was introduced to pickleball (in Fountain Hills)…..What a great game! To me it was faster, more competitive and has a much shorter/easier learning curve than tennis. I continued to play both sports but after a couple of years of pickleball it totally won out as the sport for me. Minimum cost, great exercise and great group of people..The FH Pickleball Club has approximately 300 members and is a great physical activity… It is in my opinion, the friendliest group of competitors you’ll find in the Valley.
